What this document is

WP.27 (Work Permit Application and Renewal Application Form for a foreigner under Section 63/1) is an application to the Thai Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour. One form serves two purposes: a first work permit application and a renewal of the current work permit. According to the form, each approved application is valid for up to 5 years.

Section 63/1 of the Royal Ordinance on the Management of Foreign Workers covers foreigners who stay in Thailand on Thai-issued documents: a Non-Thai identification card, an identity card for a person without civil registration status or a certificate of residence. Whether your status falls under Section 63/1 — check with the Department of Employment.

Who files it and where

  • the foreigner files and signs it personally;
  • it is filed at the Department of Employment office (an area office in Bangkok, a provincial office elsewhere) — check which office is competent for you;
  • fees and processing times are not printed on the form — check them with the office.

What the form asks for

  • type of application: new work permit or renewal;
  • applicant: title, name, nationality, date of birth, age, address in Thailand, telephone, fax, e-mail;
  • the document permitting the stay: type, number, issuing office and province, date of issue, valid until;
  • previous work permit number (for a new application) or the current work permit details (for a renewal);
  • type and nature of work, professional licence details where the law requires one;
  • employer name and address, place of work, requested period (from — to);
  • the list of attached documents and the date of signature.

Documents to attach (as listed on the form)

  • a copy of the Non-Thai identification card, the identity card for a person without civil registration status or the certificate of residence;
  • a copy of the birth certificate — only for foreigners under Section 63/1 (2);
  • a copy of the permission of the District Chief Officer or Provincial Governor to leave the area temporarily — only if you work outside it;
  • a copy of the professional licence — only for work that requires one;
  • the employment certificate from the future employer stating why a Thai national is not employed;
  • three 3×4 cm photographs — for a new application; the work permit — for a renewal;
  • employer documents: for an individual — a copy of an official ID, passport or certificate of residence; for a company — a business licence or registration certificate showing the type of business;
  • without an employer (only where allowed): proof of knowledge and experience and a copy of a service or sale contract.

The office may ask for other documents — check the current list with the Department of Employment.

Which language to use

The form is in Thai with English captions. FoxDocs writes the values as they appear in your documents: in Latin letters as in the passport, or in Thai as on a Thai-issued card. Dates are written as DD/MM/YYYY. Ask the office in advance whether it has any requirements on the script or the calendar year.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Open the chat on this page and say whether you need a new work permit or a renewal.
  2. Answer the questions about yourself, your document, the work, the employer and the place of work — the assistant ticks the right boxes in the document list.
  3. Check the fields and download the PDF.
  4. Print it, glue the photo, sign and file it at the Department of Employment office with the documents.
